Good day, When we invest money we generally do so for personal gain. We want to ensure we can maintain our comfortable lifestyles during retirement, put our kids through school and maybe help them purchase their first home, continue to grow our net worth, provide for family members, etc. It is the nature of humans to protect ourselves and extending that protection to our financial wellbeing is the right thing to do. But through responsible investing, we do much more for society whether we realize it or not. It is difficult to start a business, and most require upfront capital, as well as periodic injections of funds to continue to realize on the underlying initiative.
Whether businesses are financed through loans from investors or an ownership stake, many of the goods and services that have enhanced our lives today wouldn’t be available to us without the help of early investors and more along the way. In addition to investing directly in a business to get it off the ground or help it grow to enhance its offerings, we assist in job creation which is the lifeblood of economies around the world. In the public investment space (stock markets and bond markets), examples might be more obvious.
Many of our staples such as groceries and household products are produced by many publicly traded companies. Banks and insurance companies provide loans and insurance products, technology companies continue to enhance our web-based world, and the list goes on. Investing in private assets can also make a difference in the lives and livelihoods of those around us. Small to large private businesses can quickly access funding to continue to increase their sales, bridge loans can be provided to acquire equipment and apartment buildings can be renovated to provide better housing to people of all financial means. We can include pages of examples of why capital markets are a modern world necessity and while many of these examples are more easily understood, investment will continue to encourage innovation and evolution which will shape our lives in ways we can’t imagine today. Thank you for taking care of yourself, while investing in those around you. Happy Halloween Weekend!
