Julie Smulders is the Chief Operating Officer of Willoughby Asset Management, an investment fund manager and member of the Harbourfront Wealth group of companies. With more than 15 years of experience in asset management and financial services, Julie brings deep expertise in fund operations, product management, and organizational leadership to her role.

Prior to joining Willoughby, Julie held senior positions at Nicola Wealth and Connor, Clark & Lunn Financial Group, where she led institutional portfolio operations and oversaw the operational management of pooled funds, mutual funds, and alternative funds across North America and the UK. Earlier in her career, she gained a foundation in financial rigor as an Audit and Assurance Associate at PricewaterhouseCoopers.

Before her career in finance, Julie competed as a professional basketball player in the Netherlands — an experience that continues to shape her leadership philosophy. The discipline, strategic thinking, and team-first mindset she developed as an athlete inform how she drives operational excellence and builds high-performing teams today.

Julie is also the Founder and President of She’s Got Next, a nonprofit professional women’s network dedicated to elevating women’s sports in Canada and opening doors for the next generation of athletes.
